Rajasthani Date Balls


These popular 'Date balls' of Rajasthan are prepared during special occasions. Dates contain natural sugar and dietary fiber and are rich in potassium, which helps to lower blood pressure. Here is a non-baked recipe for yummy date balls, low in calories.
Try out this delicious recipe instead of high-calorie sweets for any special occasion. Fresh coconut and sesame seeds add a great aroma and taste to this sweet.

Serves: 3-4

Ingredients

  • 1 cup deseeded dates
  • 2 cardamoms
  • 3 tsp milk
  • ½ cup fresh coconut
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 2 tsp khova
  • 1 tsp white sesame seeds
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • Chopped nuts and raisins

Method

  1. Take chopped dates, cardamoms, milk and fresh coconut in a mixer jar. Grind all the ingredients coarsely.
  2. Heat pan and add ghee and khova. Fry for a while. Add chopped nuts and raisins and sesame seeds. Mix well.
  3. Mix the ground paste to this and sauté till coconut is fried and raw smell goes. Add sugar and sauté till it dissolves and the mixture thickens.
  4. Switch off the stove and allow cooling slightly. Apply ghee to the fingers and make balls while still warm.
