Panner Puff

Paneer Puff

Paneer puff is a North Indian pastry. It serves as an incredible way to entice guests at a tea party. It may also function as good refreshment. All, especially kids, are quite fond of it. It is a deep fried pastry stuffed with paneer (firm Indian cheese) cooked in thick gravy or sauce. The sauce should be thick and sticky enough to prevent oozing out of stuffing when one bites on the puff. The paneer puffy is not only tasty but highly nutritious.

I had tasted paneer puff in an evening party thrown by one of my close friends. She taught me this recipe and now I am sharing it with you.
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • Refined flour-1 cup
  • Melted ghee-2 tablespoons
  • Grated paneer-2 cups
  • Salt to taste
  • Grated processed cheese-4 tablespoons
  • Butter-2 tablespoon
  • Chopped onion-4 tablespoons
  • Green chilly paste-1 teaspoon
  • Ginger paste-1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic paste-1/2 teaspoon
  • Milk-1/2 teaspoon
  • White pepper powder-1 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Tomato ketchup

Method

  1. Mix flour, salt, ghee and little water and knead in to soft dough. Cover and keep it aside.
  2. Heat the butter in a pan until it melts
  3. Now add chopped onion and sauté until onion turns brown.
  4. Add green chilly paste, ginger paste, garlic paste, grated paneer, grated cheese, milk, white pepper powder and stir and mix and cook on a medium flame for sometime.
  5. When you see the sauce in the pan thickening, remove from stove and allow cooling.
  6. Then divide the dough in to small equal sized balls. Roll out each ball to make a flat circle of 3 inches diameter
  7. Place 1 tablespoon of the cooked paneer sauce stuffing in the centre of each disc and fold to give a half moon shape. Seal the edges of the half circles by pressing with your fingers.
  8. Heat oil in a kadhai and deep fry the half moon shaped puffs.
  9. Your paneer puff is ready for serving

Serving Instruction

Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
