Kiwi fruit has good level of dietary fiber and papaya has antioxidant properties. The most nutritious kiwi salad is flavoured with sesame seeds and mildly spiced. Spinach, cashews and cherries used in this salad add a different taste along with the fruits. Lime adds a sour tinge to the salad.

Beetroot Poriyal


Beetroot Poriyal




Beetroot poriyal is frequently prepared in most South Indian households. The dish has a high mineral content and is therefore high in nutritional value. Beetroot poriyal is consumed as a side dish to a meal of rice. It is accompanied by servings of sambar, rasam, papad or curd.
The dish beetroot poriyal involves the shallow frying of shredded beetroot along with spices. The preparation also involves the frying of moong dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, onions etc along with main vegetable-beetroot. The cooking is followed by seasoning with spices and shredded coconut is used for the final dressing.
My Tamil neighbor, Mrs Iyer taught me this recipe. My children are the typical picky kids, shunning vegetarian dishes. But they too have started enjoying the beetroot poriyal prepared by me. Here, I leave the recipe for you all.
